Stick ship

Ice cream sticks are suddenly in demand. Are you wondering why? Recently, a 15-metre Viking ship made of ice cream sticks sailed from the city of Lelystad in the Netherlands. Robert MacDonald of US came up with the novel idea. He urged all children to send in ice cream sticks for this project. And soon the sticks came pouring in. Robert, along with his son and 5,000 school children from 18 schools, glued 15 million sticks together to create the mammoth ship named Thor. It is the world’s largest recycled object and Robert plans to take it across the Atlantic. At present, he is desperately seeking crew members and funds to turn his dream expedition into a reality. He has said that the money raised from the voyage will be used to treat children in hospitals.

Sweetened lives

Ever wondered what it would be to replace water with honey in our lives? Well, the villagers of Banjipali in Orissa have done just that as they were facing acute water crisis. Since the village abounds in honey, they first used honey to replace water in tea and then, jaggery and sugar in sweets. The use of honey also seems to be keeping them healthier. It is said necessity is the mother of invention and this one must have sweetened their lives.
