To provide a respite from the scorching summer, our school recently organised an excursion for a week to the cooler climes of Gangtok. Students from Class VI to IX and XI went for the trip. A cool breeze blew over the lush mountainside and the air was fragrant with the sweet smell of rhododendrons.
The trip proved to be a visual treat. The bazaars bustled with women in their colourful, traditional bakus and lamas in maroon and mustard robes. Prayer flags fluttered in front of pretty Buddhist shrines and pagoda-style houses that dotted the hillside. We had a gala time discovering the mesmerising landscape of Gangtok. From its perch on the hilltop, overlooking Gangtok, Rumtek monastery proved to be a spiritual delight.
Students were also taken to other exciting sites, including Tchangu Lake, situated at an altitude of 12,400 ft on the Gangtok-Nathu La highway. The trip proved to be a very refreshing experience.
