Currency racket
Kathmandu, Aug. 10 (PTI): Nepal police have busted a fake Indian currency racket spread across many countries. The scam covering Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore was uncovered following the interrogation of over half-a-dozen suspected smugglers, an officer said.
Police said fake currencies were supplied to Kathmandu and 20 other districts where it was easily accepted. The racket was rampant in some Indian border towns, too.
Jawans hurt
Coimbatore (PTI): Ten CRPF personnel were injured when a rifle grenade burst mid-air during training at the Kurudampalayam camp on the outskirts. A small accident occurred at the camp where personnel are being trained, DIG George Francis said.
Scam arrest
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh BJP spokesperson Rajeev Bindal, who is an MLA, was arrested by the state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau on Friday in a job scam. According to the bureaus findings, Bindal, the chairman of the Solan municipal council in 1998, had favoured some candidates for civic jobs when they had not qualified the written.
Kidnap net
Chennai (PTI): A 24-year-old man has been arrested on charges of kidnapping his employers six-year-old son, police said. Murugan had allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh from the scrap dealer as ransom. Murugan was arrested when he came to take the money.
Principal rape
Sonepat (PTI): A court has sentenced the principal of Guru Dronacharya College to seven years rigorous imprisonment on charges of raping a student. The girl was lured by him on the pretext of helping her get a job in the college, the prosecution said.
Dowry fine
Jaipur (PTI): A court has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on a woman for lodging a false complaint against her husband under the domestic violence act. It has also rejected her plea for enhancing the maintenance from Rs 4,000 to Rs 23,000.
