Live cricket telecast in China for first time

Calcutta: Come next month’s ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa, live cricket telecast will invade China.

This is according to a release of the ESPN STAR Sports, which announced broadcast rights and partnerships for the first edition of the world Twenty20 meet to be held next month in South Africa.

Besides television, new media platforms — including internet and mobile — will make the games available to millions across the world.

Malcolm Speed, ICC’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “With these broadcast partnerships covering more than 105 countries, including the US and, for the first time, China, the first ever ICC World Twenty20 has the potential to reach new heights of viewership… ”

The World Twenty20 meet will be the first event to be broadcast by ESPN STAR Sports as part of its eight-year agreement with the ICC.
