Falling stars
Future World of Warcraft players can start early with this children’s role-playing game from Lithuanian developer Ivolgamus. In the land of Dazzleon, a malevolent force has been unleashed and it’s up to you to restore the balance of good and evil by solving puzzles, dressing up characters and training a pet for combat — which boils down to a simple turn-based guessing game.
You are Luna, who has to discover the truth behind the mysteries of Dazzleon and defeat evil Uncle Matt, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Shrek. Your neighbours send you on missions, putting your skills to the test in several fun mini-games, including stacking pillows on to a toy train to rescue a kitten. With manga-style graphics and pleasant music, Falling Stars is a genuinely fun, child-friendly game, set in a Teletubbies-esque land filled with oversized bees, snails and flowers.
Ghost recon adavanced warfighter 2
The latest Tom Clancy game is yet another tactical squad-based shooter, but with all the whistles and bells possible on the PS3. You’re in charge of a four-man team, battling Central American insurgents across impressively rendered urban and desert combat zones.
Wading in like Rambo won’t work, so how you deploy your squad is key. This, of course, is the fiddly part. I kept accidentally sending my lot to their deaths — and screaming “Come back, you muppets” isn’t a recognised game control. Still, once you get the hang of it, the great graphics, decent artificial intelligence and realistic terrain and weather make for a thoroughly enjoyable game. You can play with up to 16 combat-hardened warriors online across huge areas, although the controls are more limited than in single-player mode. Unique to the PS3 are 13 extra multiplayer maps, plus two new co-operative game modes.
