8-lakh tax for vendor

Jodhpur, Sept.13 (PTI): A vendor who sells tea and snacks in Pali district paid Rs 8 lakh as income tax after officials found undeclared assets worth Rs 25 lakh. The vendor, whose stall is in Rohit village on the Jodhpur-Pali road, paid the amount yesterday.

The officials also seized Rs 1 crore in cash during a raid on a gutkha manufacturer’s premises.

Flight mishap

Patiala (PTI): A training aircraft crashed while landing at the airport on Thursday. Trainee pilot Gurwinder Singh was on the single-engine HUL-26 Pushpak of the Patiala Flying Club, officials said, when one of its tyres burst. Singh lost control of the aircraft but ejected safely. The plane was badly damaged.

Polio camps

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): The state government will set up special camps to administer polio drops to Haj pilgrims at night during the month of Ramazan, which begins on Friday, health officials said. The decision was taken after Saudi Arabia made it mandatory for the pilgrims be administered polio drops.

Dalit case

Sonepat (PTI): Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a Dalit youth, Rakesh alias Lara in Gohana in August, which triggered unrest in the area. The suspect, identified as Ram Niwal alias Kaloo, was involved in bank robbery, looting of petrol pumps and assault, police said.

Rail security

New Delhi (PTI): The government will deploy 250 trained sniffer dogs at railway stations across the country as part of heightened security measures. As many as 185 stations have been identified as sensitive.
