TV part explodes

Sagar, Sept. 17 (PTI): Two boys were injured when a television condenser exploded at Devari Tehsil near here, officials in Madhya Pradesh said today.

The boys, Brijesh, 13 and Rajesh, 12, were playing with a discarded condenser when it exploded inflicting injuries on their face and chest last night.

Rapist caught

Jammu (PTI): A teacher, accused of trying to rape a minor at his home in Ramban district, was arrested on Monday. Bashir Ahmed Tantray, a teacher at a village school, had allegedly offered the nine-year-old girl free tuitions at his home.

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition seeking action against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for hosting a dinner for MPs, before the presidential and vice-presidential elections, allegedly to seek their votes.

PM better

New Delhi (PTI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is convalescing at the AIIMS after prostate surgery, will be discharged on Tuesday. The Prime Minister “is doing well”, Singh’s media adviser Sanjaya Baru said.

Ordinance

New Delhi (PTI): The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it has promulgated a second ordinance for regularising certain unauthorised commercial constructions in the capital. The ordinance, valid till December 31, 2008, seeks to protect these structures against sealing and demolition of unauthorised commercial establishments.

Crushed toes

Puducherry (PTI): A 45-year-old woman had three toes of her left foot crushed under the wheels of a temple chariot that was taken out on Friday during an annual festival. The incident took place when Vijayakumari, who stays near Chennai, rushed to prevent her 10-year-old daughter from moving too close to the chariot.
