| Shreyas Talpade with Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om |
Iqbal and Dor on the one hand, Apna Sapna Money Money..? and now Om Shanti Om on the other, SHREYAS TALPADE is on a roll. Is he on some magic potion? Find out...
My day begins with: Three glasses of water. Later, I have some tea with a couple of biscuits like Good Day, Bourbon or Glucose. After I do my workouts, I have breakfast — some cereal with fruits like apples or bananas. I top it off with a glass of milk.
I am particular about: My morning tea. It need not be strong but it must be piping hot — so much so that my tongue gets burnt sometimes. I also add a dash of ginger to the tea.
My lunch: Is a pretty heavy affair with roti, daal, chawal, sabzi and a chicken or fish dish. Food at home is typical Maharashtrian fare.
My favourite vegetable: The aloo ki sabzi that my mom makes. In vegetables, I don’t like bhindi. Mushrooms and olives give me the creeps.
In non-vegetarian food: I love prawns in any form. But I especially like prawn curry. I also love the smell and taste of chicken biryani.
My evening snack: I have either a vegetable or a chicken sandwich. If there is no decent sandwich, I would rather settle for a fruit. I like batata vadas but I am not too fond of samosas. When I am travelling, I always carry biscuits and chewing gum.
My favourite beverages: I like chikoo and mango milkshakes. Throughout the day, I keep sipping water and during the summers I have coconut water or fruit juices or an energy drink.
My dinner: Is usually something light consisting of 2-3 rotis with chicken. I like to have some rice too, it’s a habit that I have acquired over the years.
My favourite dessert: I am not too much of a dessert person but I can’t resist a bite of gulab jamun. I like chocolate pastries. My wife Deepti likes chocolates and ice-creams.
A childhood memory I associate with food: I loved Thums Up when I was a kid, and so did all my cousins. But after I had some gum problems, I was denied the drink.
My Sunday meal: Is usually very heavy. It could be mutton or chicken and some fried fish. Then there is roti or bhakri made of jowar flour or rice flour. Rice is a must. We rarely have sabzi on Sundays.
My culinary abilities: I can make decent dal-chawal, aloo ki sabzi and egg-based recipes. I tried making prawns but they were, at best, edible. My mom makes awesome prawn curry.
My comfort food: Dal chawal with homemade ghee, small papad with prawns or aloo ki sabzi.
My favourite restaurant: I dine out with my friends Nagesh and Govind. We are foodies and go out to different places like the highway Gomantak or Gajalee. I also like sizzler restaurants. I like to go to Cafe Basillico for Italian cuisine. In Rajasthan, we stayed at the Mandwar Resort and had typical Rajasthani gatte ka saag. The owner of the resort would double as the cook.
My idea of a romantic meal: The food has to be great irrespective of whether it is Italian, Indian, Mughlai or Chinese. The restaurant should not be overcrowded and we should have a special table booked for ourselves.
