The first year students of the Calcutta Institute of Technology (CIT) and the Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology (CIPT) were treated to a nice surprise when their seniors threw a grand freshers’ party for them on October 8, 2007, at Swabhumi. Titled FRENZO ’07, the event was successful in integrating the juniors and the seniors and by the end of the evening, it seemed like everyone had known each other for ages. Bangla band Fossils got the loudest claps for their electrifying performance. Freshers too showed off their talent in the individual and the group dance segments.

Amidst great fanfare, John Ridgeway, deputy chief executive officer of BP and chief operating officer of BP Shipping, inaugurated the pre-sea campus of Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) at Lonavala. Distinguished guests from the shipping fraternity flew in to witness this event. They were given a traditional Indian welcome and were also shown around the 55-acre modern campus. Welcoming the guests, the managing director of Executive Ship Management said that this institute was opened with the purpose of training world-class seafarers. The company had started post-sea courses in 2002 and as a logical backward integration, had developed this pre-sea campus. Ajoy Chatterjee, chief surveyor DG, in his address, congratulated the management for instituting such facilities and wished he was a cadet too to enjoy all this.
