Paani puri, peda & orange juice!
Deepika Padukone with Arjun Rampal in Om Shanti Om

On ramp and reel, Arjun Rampal exudes elegance and style. Even as he gets his share of accolades for his villainous act in Om Shanti Om, we quiz him on some of his food habits. And this is what the strict non-vegetarian has to say about his appetite...

The first thing I eat in the morning: Boiled-egg whites with toast, cereal with slices of banana and a glass of fresh orange juice. This is after I have worked out in the gym for one-and-a-half hours.

My lunch: When I am at home, I eat whatever has been cooked for lunch or dinner — dal, sabzi, roti and rice. When I am shooting, I carry my lunch from home. Once in a while, I eat what is served on the sets.

My diet: Is non-vegetarian. I basically enjoy eating everything.

My evening snack: I generally refrain from snacking in between meals but when I am really hungry I like to eat paani-puri at Bandra’s Elco market.

My favourite fruits: Bananas, peaches, papayas and pears.

I am allergic to: Mangoes.

I love eating: Rajma chawal with fresh curd.

My favourite desserts: I have a huge sweet tooth and look forward to some dessert after dinner.

I am crazy about Indian mithai. My top favourites are rasmalais, rawa sheera, laddoos, pedas and milk barfis. In western desserts, I like only chocolate cakes.

I am not fond of eating: Chocolates, to the surprise of many.

An early memory associated with food: When I was studying in Delhi, I used to love eating at Gol Market, and at Pandara Road. I would freak out on butter chicken, dal makhani and butter naan.

My favourite beverage: It’s a tie between hot coffee for chilly days or rainy evenings and sweet and salty lassi for hot summer days. I avoid fattening drinks. I prefer sipping water throughout the day.

My favourite mocktail: I prefer to have fresh fruit juices. Orange juice is my all-time favourite.

My favourite cocktail: I don’t drink at all.

My favourite restaurants: In Mumbai I like to eat at Olive, Frangipani, and Chinese Room. In London, I enjoy eating Chinese food at Four Seasons.

My favourite cuisine: Is Indian food. I love the taste of our vegetables as well as heavier stuff like bhajiyas. In Japanese food, I love sushi. In Chinese food, I adore wonton soup. I love Thai food too.

In Italian food I love pizzas, spaghetti and pastas. I have tried out Swiss food too. I like to experiment with food from all over the world.

My idea of a romantic meal: I’d like to be on a beach with my wife Mehr (Jessia), enjoy the waters and have a quiet candlelight dinner. I would prefer to have sea-food, especially tiger prawns.
