SC nod to Allah oath
New Delhi, Nov 16: The Supreme Court today said there was nothing unconstitutional about legislators taking oath of office in Allahs name.
Allah is an Arabic word for God, so whats the problem? a bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan said.
The court was ruling on a petition challenging the legality of 11 Kerala MLAs taking oath in Allahs name in 2006.
Jawan death
Srinagar,(PTI): A CRPF jawan died under mysterious circumstances inside a camp in uptown Srinagar on Friday, police said. Head constable Wankhede of the 29th Battalion was found unconscious on his bed at the CRPF camp in Sanatnagar.
Fatal Viagra
London (PTI): Thousands of fake variations of Viagra shipped from India and sold in the UK could be dangerous and even fatal, trading officials here have warned. Dubbed pills that kill, the officials said the sex enhancement medicines were untested and urged anyone who had bought them to throw them away immediately.
Toxic ship
New Delhi (PTI): Spain has expressed apprehensions about the presence of a toxic-laden ship at a Gujarat port, days after the UN alerted India about it. In a letter to Delhi, the Spanish government said the ship had left Almeria in August for Constanza in Romania, where it was to undergo repairs. But it changed course and reached Alang.
UAE relief
Dubai (PTI): The UAE has amended its rules for sponsorship transfer, allowing expatriates to change jobs without having to spend one year with their original sponsors. The move will benefit thousands of foreign workers, many of them Indians.
Electrocuted
Lucknow, (PTI): Three women and a child were electrocuted to death in Hamirpur village on the outskirts of the city, police said. The incident occurred on Thursday when the child touched a high-tension wire. In a bid to rescue him, his mother and two neighbours also came in contact with the wire and died.
