Calcutta, Nov. 17: The Vodafone Essar-IIT Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications was inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, today.

“Eight such centres are being set up in the country, according to a plan mooted by the department of telecommunications and the Cellular Operators’ Association of India. The centres will come up in partnership with national institutes like IIT Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad,” said R.V. Raja Kumar, the professor in charge of the centre.
