Chinsurah, Dec. 1: Two policemen and a robber were injured in a gun fight today at Hooghly’s Chanditala, reports our correspondent.

Ram Avtar, 24, Chandrapal Singh, 26, and Lal Singh, 25, broke into a jewellery shop around 1 am. A police patrol saw the shutters of the shop partly open and got suspicious.

As the officer in charge of Chanditala police station, Partha Sarathi Majumdar, peeped in, one of the robbers threw a hammer at him. It hit his forehead. The gang then opened the shutters and fired two shots. One of the bullets hit sub-inspector Azimuddin Mondal’s hand. The other hit the police jeep.

The police fired back, injuring Avtar. His accomplices later surrendered.
