Pinky Kapoor answers your Feng Shui queries

We live in a joint family in a spacious bungalow where the north-east sector is missing. Ours is a family of qualified engineers but none of the younger generation is doing well in their studies. Is it due to the cut? We are worried about the children’s education and future. Secondly we have an underground water tank in the pure south-west of the house. Changing its position is just impossible. Please suggest a powerful remedy.

Atul Biswas

The north-east is for sure connected with education. Try to build a room in this sector for a temple. If this is not possible, then give a regular shape to this area by laying a copper strip underneath the ground.

Create a visual demarcation by forming flower beds on the top of the newly-created line. Then install a light from the meeting point in such a way that it brightly illuminates the void area. Also try to put a canopy on top so that this vital area gets sheltered. Place an earthen pot filled with water in the centre of the covered area and float some flower petals in it. Also check that the boundary wall of the property is not tapering towards the north-east. Finally, make all the children study in the north-east of their rooms facing north, east or north-east.

The south-west area is never dug to store water. It affects the stability of the family members. The best way to balance this flaw is by planting trees behind the tank that will grow very tall.

Please guide me with the placement of mirrors, underground and overhead water tanks, fountains and rocks.

Radhika

Mirrors are best placed on the northern, eastern or north-eastern walls. Care should be taken that they do not reflect toilets, kitchens, the main entrance or a bad view from outside the window. Underground watertanks should be dug in the north or east of the northeast sector and the overhead water tanks should be in the west or south of the south-west sectors. Care should be taken that both these tanks don’t fall on the diagonal line running from south-west to north-east in the centre of the property and the building. Fountains are excellent in the north as they bring a lot of luck and wealth especially if they face the main entrance of the house. Rockeries, when built in the south-west area, provide residents with utmost strength and stability.
