As the crowd grooved to beats on the open-air dance-floor at the RCGC grounds, it seemed like New Years Eve had already arrived. It was the last day and prom night of Umang 2007, Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society s (BGES) annual fest, in association with t2.
Fifty colleges participated in the five-day extravaganza, which included four days of competitive events in music, dance, sports, creative writing and fashion, culminating in the prom night.
The students of this college know how to have fun and are professional in their approach. In fact, that applies to this entire generation, said Mangal Das Shanghvi, president, BGES.
Day I started with an inaugural dance performed by over 150 students. Some of the fun events of the day were Umang Laughter Challenge and Nail Art, both of which were won by the hosts. The college also won the Mock Parliament and the Counter Strike competitions on the second day. The third and the fourth day also saw a virtual monopoly by the Bhawanipur banner, as the wild-card team of the Bhawanipur School won Mock-a-Band. The college also won Spoof Two Movies and the War of The DJs contests on the fourth day.
We ended up winning in almost all the competitions, smiled third-year student Megha Trivedi. There were serious competitive events for wannabe managers, which included Market Your Soul (a product marketing competition), Corporate Branding, Group Discussions and Mock CAT (yes, at a fest!).
The prom night was chill-out time. The crowd grooved as DJ Dippy and DJ Shireen belted out their stuff. For the DJs, it was a different high playing for their alma mater. It feels funny, in a way, because I was on the other side of the console just a year ago. But its still a lot of fun, grinned Shireen as the crowd danced to her Glassy beat.
