DAY I HIGHLIGHTS

Anil Kumble became India’s third captain from Karnataka after Gundappa Viswanath and Rahul Dravid but the first among them to lead India in a Bangalore Test

Debutant Yasir Arafat became the 189th player to represent Pakistan in Tests. He is the second debutant for Pakistan in 2007

Sachin Tendulkar missed only his 12th Test since his debut against Pakistan in November 1989. This was the first time he has missed a Test against India’s arch-rivals

Wasim Jaffer (when on 7) completed 350 runs in the Test series. Till the end of Day I in Bangalore, Jaffer is the highest run scorer from either side in the series. He has amassed 360 runs @ 72.00 with one century and two half-centuries

Rahul Dravid played his 50th Test in India, becoming the sixth Indian to do so. Sunil Gavaskar holds the record (65 Tests on Indian soil)

Dravid’s woeful form in Bangalore continued. He has scored just 184 runs in 10 innings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium @18.40

V.V.S. Laxman was finally dismissed since August 2007 (from the Test versus England in Oval). In this period, he has scored 241 runs (46*, 72*, 6*, 112*, 5)
