Mumbai murder arrest

Mumbai, Feb. 18: Four people — two drivers, and a domestic help all hailing from Orissa — have been arrested by Mumbai police in connection with the murder of a 67-year-old woman in her Mumbai apartment on February 4.

Kiran Khanna, a former Censor Board member, was found bleeding in the bathroom of her Worli apartment and cash and jewellery worth Rs 10.10 lakh was found looted.

Her 15-year-old servant Deepak Bharik told the police that two people who came to deliver flower bouquets had entered the house and assaulted him till he was unconscious. Khanna was rushed to Jaslok hospital, died in the hospital that night.

Joint commissioner of police (crime) Rakesh Maria today said Bharik was among the four arrested and remanded to Dongri juvenile delinquent home till February 28. The others arrested in the case were Girish Behera (25), Sudhir Behera (23) and Gullu Sah (24). A fifth accused Gullu Behera is absconding. All belong to Dheknal district in Orissa.

Police said Girish worked as a driver in a building next to Bhagwan Apartments where K.N. Khanna and his wife stayed. Bharik had told the group that the family had valuables worth Rs 60 lakh.
