Calcutta: There were no upsets on Day I of the Coal India-ITF Men’s Futures tournament at the Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy on Monday as all seeded players, including defending champion Enev Todor, won their matches.

Third seed Todor of Bulgaria beat Lin Tzu-Yang of Chinese Taipei 6-4, 6-1 in the first round tie while sixth seed David Savic of Serbia beat India’s Rohan Gajjar 6-2, 6-4. Savic raced through the first set and then came from 1-4 down in the second to win the match.

Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan withdrew from the tournament and was replaced by lucky loser Rohan Gide of India. Gide beat compatriot Navdeep Singh 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 in a match that lasted three hours and 23 minutes.

Fifth seed Peng Sun of China was also stretched by compatriot Yu Wang Jr 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
