Gilchrist injury not serious

Calcutta: Adam Gilchrist’s hand injury is not too serious and the Australian vice-captain will be fully fit for Friday’s match against Sri Lanka, physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said on Monday.

Playing down reports that Gilchrist could be doubtful on Friday after suffering a thumb injury during Sunday’s tri-series win over India, Cricket Australia (CA) said in a statement that there was no plan to carry out any medical investigation in this regard.

“Adam did receive a knock on the hand while wicketkeeping last night and while it was quite sore at the time he is expected to be fully fit to take part in Friday’s match against Sri Lanka,” CA physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.

“No medical investigation has been undertaken andthere is no plan to do so over the course of the week.”
