Beyond borders: Atif Aslam performs at the event
|
On February 15 and 16, Calcutta was buzzing with the news of Fiesta, the annual cultural festival of the International School of Business and Media (ISB&M) held at Nicco Park. The fest had a host of competitions that gave students from various colleges the opportunity to showcase their talents. The two-day event ended with a grand performance by popular Pakistani singer Atif Aslam.
The uniqueness of the event lay in the fact that it was organised wholly and solely by the students of the institute. From greeting the visiting corporates to looking after the security of the star performer, the students handled the whole thing like seasoned professionals.
The first day took off with an extempore speech competition followed by Antakshari and solo singing. The fusion dance competition and the western dance competition were the real highlights of the day.
The second day commenced with the AD-MAD challenge followed by the unique Kitchen Orchestra Challenge, where students had to create music with the kitchenware items given to them.
The live wire performance by Atif Aslam was a fitting finale to the fest. The event was a major crowd puller. The Pakistani singer belted out hit numbers like Woh Lamhe, Aadat, Doorie and Tere Bin sending the crowd into raptures.
The success of Fiesta ’08 can be attributed to the students of International School of Business and Media. All of them put in their best so that the event could be the best possible college fest. Fiesta ’08 will forever be an integral part of their lives that they will not forget in the years to come.

The art of recycling
Recently Class IV students of Birla High School (Girls) made a presentation on the importance of paper. It was on how paper is made, how it is used and how it is recycled. As trees are important for our existence we should be very careful while using paper and not waste it.
In our school, we always try to recycle paper. For example, when we finish our reviews, we tear the extra part of the question paper and collect them to make notepads. We made vegetable prints on the notepads and gifted it to our teachers this year.
Used chart papers can be re-used to cover books. Newspapers can be used in the place of chart paper. Rough books can be covered with newspapers too. A poem Tree Blessing by Ruskin Bond crystallised our thoughts. So do save paper, for trees are our lives.
