monkey love

Big, fat wedding

In this wedding season, when thousands are tying the knot, two monkeys in Orissa didn’t want to be left out. Manu, a three-year-old male monkey, was married off to Jhumuri, a female monkey in Ghanteswara village. While Manu was adopted by a couple who found him in a mango orchard, Jhumuri’s owners found her at a local temple. The grand wedding took place at a temple complete with all the rituals of a traditional Hindu wedding. Jhumuri, the bride, was decked in a five-metre-long red sari and flowers. Around 3,000 guests showered the newly weds with gifts. They were treated to a delicious feast comprising rice, lentils, vegetables, fish and sweets. After the wedding, the bride and the groom were released from their chains to enjoy a free life. We wish them a ‘happily ever after’.

Mouse mayhem

A tiny mouse forced an airline to make an unscheduled landing as it tumbled out of its owner’s pocket. Liu Yulian, a passenger on board, sneaked her pet mouse into the aircraft. As she dozed off, the mouse escaped. When Yulian detected her pet’s absence, she alerted the cabin crew and the plane landed at the Xiaoshan International Airport, China. However, after a two-and-a-half-hour intensive search failed to locate the rodent, the flight took off for its scheduled destination at Shenzhen. Now that’s quite a rumpus for a creature known to nibble away in a corner.
