The jurys out
We all know that bears love honey, and one in Macedonia proved just that. Recently, a court in Macedonia slapped a bear with a criminal charge of theft for stealing honey from a beekeepers hives. However, there was no bear in the court of Bitola (the Macedonian city) as the sentence was pronounced. Zoran Kiseloski, the hapless beekeeper, brought a case after failing to control the menacing bear who repeatedly raided his hives, reported BBCNews. Initially, he tried to ward off the animal by lighting up the area and playing loud Serbian turbo-folk music. But the honey thief was back once the generator stopped running and the place became dark and silent. The court ordered the state to pay £1,750 to the beekeeper for the damage caused by the bear to his hives, as the animal belongs to a protected species and has no owner.

Fishy business
Bello yakub, a fisher- man, won the annual Argungu fishing festival in Kebbi, Nigeria, after he caught a fish weighing 10st 6lb with bare hands. Yakub, 48, won a sum of £17,000 after he struggled with the huge fish and got it out of the water just using two thin nets. The giant fish, called Giwan Rua, meaning elephant of the water, weighed almost as much as the fisherman himself. Yakub won for the very first time after 30 attempts.
