Chemical blast
Thane, March 30 (PTI): Two workers were killed and seven injured in an explosion in a chemical-manufacturing company in Tarapur, Maharashtra, police said.
The explosion occurred around 1am in the production section of Sterling Pvt Ltd. Two workers with over 70 per cent burns died and seven were hospitalised. Boisar police said a chemical was being loaded when the explosion took place.
Junta visit
Yangon (AFP): The second-in-command of Myanmars ruling junta, Maung Aye, and his wife will soon pay an official visit to India, on an invitation from Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Myanmars state-run newspaper New Light said on Sunday.
Border arrest
Kathmandu (PTI): An Indian, wanted in several robbery and abduction cases along the Indo-Nepal border, has been arrested, police said. Qamruddin Ansari was arrested near Rani Talau in Nepalgunj, a western border town in Nepal.
Debt death
Nashik (PTI): A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by drinking pesticide at Dhondgavhan village here, police said on Sunday. He had taken a loan of Rs 2.12 lakh from a co-operative society.
Bhagat Singh
New Delhi (PTI): The government plans further research into Bhagat Singhs eventful life nearly 77 years after he died for the cause of independence of the country. As a part of the initiative, the government will set up a Bhagat Singh chair in Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Pak prisoner
New Delhi (PTI): Veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar has approached the National Human Rights Commission, demanding an inquiry into the death of a Pakistani prisoner, Khalid Mehmood, in Indian custody last month. His body was handed over to Pakistan at Attari border earlier this month. Nayar said he would file a petition for a probe into the charge that Mehmood died of police torture.
