What women want

Is an IPL league for themselves....

Or something like it. While the lovely cheerleaders are doing a great job for their respective Indian Premier League teams, it is time women’s spot in sports in India went from the sidelines to centre stage.

Perhaps then we can have the men line up in short-shorts and wave pretty pompoms.

And no, the players will not wear miniskirts, even though it has been proven that Sania Mirza is the only desi sportswoman who gets any airplay, and that the Indian audience seems more interested in what she wears than her forehand.

The teams will wear designer track pants and jerseys and prove that there is more to the average sports fan than testosterone-fuelled frenzy.

With so many young men finally getting a chance to play and even getting (well) paid for it, young women too will be able to dream of a career in India’s favourite sport. We also may finally learn all the names of our nation’s World Cup-finalist women’s team members.
