Patna, Nov. 30: Colleagues today recalled the courage with which Major Sandeep Unnikrishan, a 7th Bihar Regiment officer, battled terrorists at the Taj in Mumbai and laid down his life for his country.

“The felicity with which he used his mental acumen and weapons while working at high altitude in Gulmarg, he proved that he was an epitome of bravery,” said Major R.K. Singh of 7th Bihar Regiment who had worked with the slain Sandeep Unnikrishnan.

“We are proud of him. Bihar Regiment has lost its valiant braveheart who despite being a Major, always preferred to remain on front while fighting the enemies. He was more than a brother to us during operations,” recalled Ajay Kumar, a sepoy who worked with Unni, as Sandeep was popularly known among his colleagues, for six years. Unni was on deputation with NSG for 30 months.

The officers and jawans at Danapur Cantonment also mourned Unni’s death.

While reports reaching suggest that at least nine people from Bihar, including seven from Nawadah district alone, have lost their lives in the terror attacks in Mumbai, the state government is still awaiting the final list. Principal secretary (home) Azjal Amannullah said: “We are in touch with our Mumbai counterparts. They are quite busy in arranging the things after the terror strike of such a magnitude.”
