Swastika sorry
Actress Swastika Mukherjee appeared in the high court on Wednesday and tendered an “unconditional apology” for failing to pay a fine imposed on her for making false statements in court. She paid the fine of Rs 8,500 and was exempted from attending court proceedings on a Rs 7.7-crore damages suit filed by her estranged husband’s brother for falsely accusing him of harassment. Justice Maharaja Sinha asked Swastika to file an affidavit by January 12, apologising for her conduct.
Accident
An unidentified passenger was seriously injured when the autorickshaw he was travelling in collided with a truck belonging to Unicef on Wednesday at the CR Avenue-Beadon Street crossing. olice said the auto jumped a traffic signal and entered CR Avenue. The passenger was admitted to Medical College and Hospital in a critical state. The auto driver was arrested.
Market mishap
A huge concrete chunk fell off the second floor roof of BD Market in Salt Lake on Wednesday morning. Though no one was injured, stall owners and residents protested Bidhannagar municipality’s shoddy maintenance of the 40-year-old market. The civic authorities have missed the November 15 deadline for shifting the shops to a temporary market in BD Park.
