Connecting colleges

Employers look for the best and the brightest while recruiting. However, the skills required at the workplace are often not taught at college. MphasiS, an IT solutions company, aims to bridge this gap by making fresh graduates ready for the job market with its programme titled College Connect.

MphasiS works in association with engineering colleges — currently it has six institutional collaborations that span across India — supporting them in various ways. It sponsors college events through monetary and advisory means. Students from these colleges are given preference for internships and jobs at the company and are also invited to work on new and niche product ideas. Faculty members from College Connect partners are also invited to its resident training academy where they undergo training to upgrade their skills. MphasiS also conducts soft skills training for students at partner colleges.

As the initiative progresses, the network is being expanded with a focus on developing talent in the country’s hinterland. In its second year now, MphasiS is opening up the application process to all engineering colleges across India. Colleges that would like to be a part of College Connect should write to college.connect@mphasis.com or log on to www.mphasis.com/CollegeConnect/index.htm.

NEW DELHI

Insure your future

MetLife India Insurance Company Limited (MetLife) has tied up with the University of Delhi (DU) to launch a life insurance education and training programme called Yuvodaya.

The programme, which is specifically designed for DU graduates, will offer education and training in insurance sales practices, products and legal and regulatory aspects of life insurance. The three-month, part-time (three days a week) course would include on-the-job training. Successful students would be awarded a joint University of Delhi-MetLife certificate while meritorious ones may be absorbed by MetLife as financial advisors, sales managers or operations managers.

“We are looking at hiring over 2,000 sales managers and 30,000 financial advisors in the next two months. This association will help us strengthen our hiring initiatives,” says Rajesh Relan, managing director, MetLife.

All graduates of DU, including those who passed out in 2008, are eligible for this course. Interested candidates can register at the university till January 7, 2009.
