Purulia bypoll

Dec. 27: About 72 per cent polling was registered in the bypoll in Para, Purulia, today. The result will be declared on January 9. For the two other bypolls, in Nandigram and Sujapur, which is in Malda, 15 companies of the CRPF will arrive on December 30.

Todi in SSKM

Calcutta: Ashok Todi, the key accused in the Rizwanur Rahman case, has been admitted to SSKM hospital. He had complained of back pain and was brought to the hospital from Presidency Jail. Twice earlier, Todi was brought to the hospital but was refused admission.

Mamata

Calcutta: Mamata Banerjee has told governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi that CPM supporters were stockpiling arms to unleash violence before the January 5 bypoll in Nandigram. At the Raj Bhavan she said: “The CPM supporters are collecting arms from the Nandigram police station. I have asked the governor to institute a CBI probe.”
