Swine flu suspect
B>nA Calcuttan was sent to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Beleghata, on the suspicion of swine flu after he arrived at the city airport from Dubai on Friday morning. Airport officials said Khalid Sheikh, 22, had caught a cold and was suffering from fever.
Duo held
B>nSheikh Bapi and Sheikh Mustakin were arrested for allegedly trying to hijack a truck carrying manganese worth Rs 25 lakh on National Highway 6 in Mecheda, Midnapore East, on Thursday night. Police said the truck fell into a pond near Kona Expressway after the driver lost control while being chased by cops.
Lawyer strike
B>nMembers of the Calcutta High Court Bar Association on Friday failed to decide on ending the lawyer’s strike that began on Tuesday. The general body of the association will meet again on November 9. The lawyers are demanding filling up of 18 posts of judges in the high court.
Factory fire
B>nA fire broke out in an aluminium factory in Rajarhat on Friday morning. Four tenders fought the blaze for an hour. The blaze started while workers were welding aluminium scraps.
