Ranchi/Bokaro, Nov. 7: The JVM today declared the names of candidates for Godda, Deoghar, Borio, Madhupur, Jamshedpur (East) and Silli constituencies as party chief Babulal Marandi reached Bokaro to show his support for former minister Samresh Singh at a political rally in Santhal Pargana.
Rajesh Kumar will be trying his luck in Godda, Baldeo Das in Deoghar, Surya Narayan Hansda in Borio, Shambhu Sharma in Madhupur and Abhay Singh in Jamshedpur (East). Amit Kumar Mahto will contest from Silli.
The declarations came barely a few hours before nominations for the first phase of elections ended. However, all candidates managed to file their nomination papers on time.
Elections in the first five Assembly constituencies in questions will be held on November 25. Elections in Silli Assembly constituency will be held in the second phase on December 2.
Marandi, while negotiating an alliance with the Congress, had initially demanded 31 Assembly seats. But he finally settled for 19.
“People are now fed up with temporary and fragmented mandates which foment corruption at all levels. The JVM and Congress can play a vital role in its all-round development and stamp out corrupt practices which are deeply embedded due to weak leadership witnessed in the past six years,” Marandi said.
The JVM(P) and Congress will fight against each other in Bokaro, Baghmara, Barkatha, Madhupur and Ichagarh.
