UPSC CSE 2024 Cut-Offs

The cutoff for UPSC CSE is determined based on various factors, including the total number of vacancies, the difficulty level of the examination, the overall performance of candidates, and reservation norms. The cutoff marks are different for each stage of the examination, i.e., Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview.

The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (CSAT). The cutoff for Paper-I is generally higher than for Paper II. Only candidates who score above the cutoff in Paper-I are eligible for the evaluation of Paper II. The cutoff for the Preliminary Examination is set to ensure that a reasonable number of candidates qualify for the Main Examination.

The Main Examination is subjective in nature and consists of nine papers, out of which two papers are qualifying in nature. The cutoff for the Main Examination is determined based on the aggregate marks of the seven papers that are counted for the final merit list. The qualifying papers are of 300 marks each, and candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks to proceed to the interview stage.

The Interview (Personality Test) is the final stage of the selection process. The marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview are considered for the final merit list. The cutoff for the Interview is generally lower than the Main Examination as the interview is more of an assessment of the candidate's personality, communication skills, and suitability for a career in civil services.

It is important to note that the cutoff marks can vary from year to year depending on the level of competition and the overall performance of candidates. Aspirants should aim to score well above the cutoff marks to increase their chances of success in the UPSC CSE. Additionally, candidates belonging to reserved categories may have relaxed cutoff marks as per the government's reservation policy.

Overall, the cutoff for UPSC CSE plays a crucial role in determining the eligibility of candidates for each stage of the examination and ensures that the most deserving and qualified candidates move forward in the selection process to serve the nation in various prestigious civil services.
