Filmmaker Karan Johar on Sunday slammed a comedian for mimicking him on TV, saying the mimicry was done in “exceptionally poor taste”.

“I was sitting and watching television with my mom…and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel…a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste,” the 51-year-old filmmaker penned a note on his Instagram story.

The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director said that he expected such mimicry from trolls and “faceless and nameless people” rather than established comedians. “When your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years, it speaks volumes about the times we live in,” Karan said.

“This doesn’t even anger me, it just makes me sad,” he signed off.

Crew producer Ekta R. Kapoor supported Karan and reshared his post on her Instagram story along with a note. “Happened so many times! Ugly humour sometimes on shows. N even. Award functions. N then. They expect you to attend,” Ekta wrote, adding, “Karan, pls ask them. To imitate. One movie. Or classic of urs.”

Karan thanked the 48-year-old producer for her kind words. “Love you, Ekta,” he said.

On the work front, Karan is all set to co-produce Vasan Bala’s thriller Jigra starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, slated to release in September. He recently produced Sagar Ambre and Muhammad Asif Ali’s Yodha starring Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani and Raashi Khanna under the banner of Dharma Productions.

Karan’s upcoming production ventures also include action thriller Kill starring Lakshya and Tanya Maniktala and sports drama Mr and Mrs Mahi starring Rajkummar Rao andJanhvi Kapoor.
