Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata (IACS, Kolkata) is the oldest institution in India that is consistently dedicated to the fundamental research programs in the newly acquired territories of basic sciences. The Noble rewarded Physicist of India, Professor Chandra Sekhar Venkat Raman served for years at IACS, Kolkata and also made his historic discovery of the 'Raman Effect' here.
IACS, Kolkata was founded in 1876 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Not only as a premiere institution but IACS, Kolkata is also regarded as one of the most historically significant institutions of India for serving in the field of academic and intellectual excellence both nationally and globally.
IACS, Kolkata is an autonomous deemed to University offering various disciplines in science under integrated (B.Sc. + M.Sc.) and Post Graduate degrees. The eligibility criteria for the integrated course are 10+2 or equivalent marks and the UPST test or UG Pre-interview screening test conducted by the institution. For Post Graduation the candidate must score 60% at the bachelor's level. The post-graduation selection is also based on the marks obtained in the Master's Pre-Interview Screening Test (MPST) conducted by IACS, Kolkata.
