An Institute of National Importance and one of the 21 IIITs suggested under the non-profit Public Private Partnership (PPP) Model by MHRD is the Indian Institute of Information Technology Tiruchirappalli (IIIT Tiruchirappalli), popularly known as IIIT Trichy. One of the primary goals of establishing IIIT Tiruchirappalli is to create an educational model capable of producing best-in-class human resources in IT and leveraging the multiple elements of IT in diverse areas. IIIT Tiruchirappalli began operations from its permanent campus in Sethurappatti on June 14, 2021. Prior to that, beginning in the middle of July 2020, IIIT Tiruchirappalli operated out of a temporary campus on the grounds of the Oxford Engineering College campus in Tiruchirappalli. Earlier to that, IIIT Tiruchirappalli has been operating since March 2016 on the temporary campus located on the grounds of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Campus, Tiruchirappalli.
IIIT Tiruchirapalli offers B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering, M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and VLSI Systems, and Ph.D. in engineering and Science & Humanities department. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains) is used for B.Tech admission. Through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and the Centralized Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), JEE-Mains eligible applicants are accepted to the B.Tech course. Candidates should have a degree from an accredited university if they want to apply for the M.Tech programme. And based on candidates' performance in their master's degree, the admission requirements for the PhD programme are determined.
