Karnatak University, Dharwad (KU Dharwad) was established by the Bombay legislature that governed the Bombay Presidency. KU Dharwad was created through the Karnatak University Act of 1949 and became a statutory University on the 1st of March, 1950. KU Dharwad has campuses in the districts of Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and Uttar Kannada. KU Dharwad has been recognized for its exceptional potential as a prestigious academic institution, having been awarded the 'University with Potential for Excellence' (UPE) title by the University Grants Commission. KU Dharwad offers many postgraduate courses in M.A, M.sc, M.Com, M.Phil, and Doctorate level courses Under its five departments- Science & technology, social science, Arts, Commerce, Law, and Education.

KU Dharwad has also provided an impressive array of sports and recreational facilities, including two tennis courts, a basketball court, a swimming pool, a volleyball court, a gymnasium, an indoor shuttle badminton court, and table tennis facilities. Moreover, the Post Graduate Gymkhana is equipped with a T.V., radio, and indoor games. When it comes to essential amenities, the campus provides several canteen and boarding facilities, including a central canteen and five smaller ones. The campus also has two nationalized banks, Syndicate Bank and State Bank of India, providing banking services, and postal and telegraphic services are also available on the campus. In addition, hostel facilities for students are provided, as well as a health center, ensuring the well-being of those on the campus.
