Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), situated in Manipal, was established in 1957 by the then Chief Minister of Mysore - the late Siddavanahalli Nijalingappa with an aim to disseminate technical knowledge and innovation at a global level. MIT, previously known as Manipal Engineering College, is one of the first self-financing engineering colleges in India. The prestigious institute of MIT is affiliated with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

MIT is a co-ed institution which offers a number of undergraduate courses - B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, B.Tech-Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, DSE - Data Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Computer, and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Cyber-Physical Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, and Printing Technology.
For students willing to take admitted to MIT has to appear for the entrance test administered by the institution. It is mandatory to have minimum passing marks in the 12th level examination in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer. Students get admitted on the basis of merit.

With an aim to encourage students, MIT offers a traditional library with a large number of books, magazines, and journals as well as a digital library for e-resources; smart classrooms; and on-campus WIFI access. To enhance practical knowledge, students are provided with several well-equipped course-specific labs. Other major facilities provided by the college are separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls, an auditorium, indoor and outdoor sports amenities, and a cafeteria.

Admission Procedure
The admission procedure of the Manipal Institute of Technology Manipal has an online method. The students (co-ed) are required to have attained passing marks in their Higher Secondary Examinations in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer along with the entrance test conducted by MIT Manipal. The final admission is based on merits gained by the applying students.
B.Tech, M.Tech, and MCA programmes are available at MIT Manipal in a number of specialisations. Candidates must pass the Manipal Entrance Test (MET) in order to be admitted to any course at MIT Manipal.
