The University of Burdwan, Bardhaman (BU) is a premier public university situated in West Bengal, India. Established back in the year 1960 with a mere six graduate departments, the university has grown over time. The autonomous university is approved by both the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grants Commission (UGC).
At present, BU provides undergraduate courses in Law, Arabic, Bengali, Classical Music (vocal), Education, English, French, Hindi, History, Mass Communication and Journalism, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Rabindra Sangeet, Sanskrit, Santali, Sociology, Urdu, Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality, Computer Applications, Commercial Studies, Science, Economics, Geography, Bio-Technology, Bio-Chemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Environmental Studies, Geology, Mathematics, Micro-Biology, Nutrition, Physics, Physiology, Statistics, Zoology, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Psychology, Anthropology and Education. Students at BU are taught by a faculty consisting of people with industry experience. They provide an all-around education combining industry best practices and theoretical knowledge. BU conducts online admissions for its various courses. The students must fill up the online form to apply. Thereafter, the final selection and admission are done strictly on the basis of merit. Scholarships are provided to single girl children and physically handicapped students.
There is also an Industry Institute Partnership Cell on campus to manage student placements. Placement drives are also organized by the IIPC to ensure that the maximum number of students get placed. To deliver a unique university experience the Golapbag campus has a two-storied library consisting of around 158962 books and numerable journals, reprints, thesis, micro-films, reports, rare books, and CD ROMs. This library is accessible to all departments. However, separate department-wise libraries are also present to cater to their specific needs. Separate subject-focused laboratories are also present in several different departments of the BU to allow students to conduct their practical experiments without restrictions. The classrooms are spacious and well-equipped. BU also takes pride in having its own renowned Meghnad Saha Planetarium, the only planetarium in India to be affiliated with a university. This planetarium is equipped with a high-definition projection system and cutting-edge technology. Separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls are available with all the basic amenities. BU also has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities, as well as a budget-friendly cafeteria serving hygienic dishes and beverages. A dedicated healthcare center grants emergency services to students as and when needed.

Admission Procedure
The University of Burdwan offers B.A (Hons), B.Sc (Hons), LL.B, B.A LL.B, B.B.A, B.C.A, B.Com, B.F.A, B.P.Ed, B.A B.Ed, B.Sc B.Ed degree on several specializations.The admissions process for different courses at the undergraduate level is merit-based. The official admission portal allows candidates to submit their application forms online.
BU also offers postgraduate (M.Sc / M.A / MBA /M.Com) and M.Phil, doctorate (PhD) degree courses with various specializations. Interested candidates can apply through their official website. To apply for their PhD degree candidate must qualify UGC NET/CSIR NET entrance examination. For an MBA degree candidates must qualify MAT entrance examination.

Placements
The University of Burdwan maintains an Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) that manages student placements. In addition, the IIPC organizes industrial training. The IIPC offers students internship options in addition to placements. Internships provide non-final-year students with hands-on experience in the workplace.
