West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Kolkata (WBUAFS) was established under the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences Act - 1995. The goal of the Institute is to impart training and education, and also conduct research, on veterinary and animal sciences, dairy sciences and fishery sciences, as well as cater to the needs of the rural communities in West Bengal. WBUAFS has been recognised as one of the leading institutions working to uplift the socio-economical status of the farmers. WBUAFS is making great strides in research and development, working on cutting-edge technology to improve the management of animal and fishery resources, diseases, nutrients, water resources and the environment. WBUAFS is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Veterinary Council of India (VCI), and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR).
West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences offers diploma (DIP), undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) as well as doctorate (PhD) courses on veterinary and fishery-related subjects. At the undergraduate level, 3 courses are offered: Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Bachelor of Fishery Sciences, and Bachelor of Technology in Dairy Technology. The diploma course on offer is Diploma in Veterinary Pharmacy. Apart from this, WBUAFS also offers 8 postgraduate (M.V.Sc) and 8 Doctorate courses in various subjects under the Veterinary and Animal Sciences discipline, 8 PG (M.F.Sc) and 7 PhD courses under Fishery Sciences discipline, and 4 PG (M.Tech) and 3 PhD courses under Dairy Technology discipline. West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences engages expert faculty members from relevant fields to skillfully guide the students in their academic exploits. The faculty members are actively engaged in research works and receive multiple grants for the same. Since 2006, WBUAFS has had a dedicated Placement Cell which provides students with career counselling and helps them secure placements in Government departments of Animal Resource and Fishery, as well as private companies dealing in livestock and livestock feed. B.Tech students get placed in well-known companies such as Glaxo Smithkline, Amul, ITC, Nestle India Ltd., Mother Dairy, Perfetti Van-Melle, and many more. Admission Procedure
Admission to West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Kolkata takes place online via the official university website. Candidates submit their applications by entering the necessary details and uploading the supporting documents. For admission to the B.Tech course the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) score is required. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) scores are required for admission to the B.V.Sc&A.H course. A merit list is then published on the website, following which the candidates undergo counselling, and are finally admitted.
WBUAFC Kolkata also offers Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc), Master of Fishery Science (M.F.Sc), M.Tech and PhD course. Candidates for admission to all the Master's Degree Programme must have earned their B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.Tech. (Dairy Technology), or B.F.Sc. from an accredited university with a minimum of 55% overall. Candidates will only be chosen strictly based on their performance in the personal interview and their merit. The percentage of overall grade point average (O.G.P.A) in the bachelor's degree examination, as well as the percentage of O.G.P.A. in the relevant subject for which admission is sought, will be used to determine the merit.
Candidates for admission to the PhD programme in a particular field must have earned a Master's degree in that field and taken a sufficient number of courses in the proposed major field of specialisation. Candidates will be chosen strictly based on their academic record and performance in the personal interview.

The Placement Cell of the West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Kolkata has been functioning since 2006, counselling students for employment opportunities and securing placements. Students get absorbed in various developmental sectors in the state, country, as well as abroad. The main sectors accommodating veterinary and fishery sciences students are Government departments of Animal Resources and Fishery, also private companies dealing in livestock and livestock feed. Students passing out with B.Tech in Dairy Technology from WBUAFS, get engaged by the various milk and dairy producing companies such as Glaxo Smithkline, Amul, ITC, Nestle India Ltd., Mother Dairy, Perfetti Van-Melle, National Food Corporation Ltd., etc.
