Actor Ali Fazal has penned a heartfelt note praising wife Richa Chadha’s portrayal of courtesan Lajjo Jaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s maiden web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which premiered on Netflix on May 1.

“Only a fool would not take Lajjo and fly away !! ( Lajjo check) You are simply the best and i feel so lucky i get to share my notes with you in person,” the actor wrote on Instagram on Thursday, alongside a video montage that captures their shared moments of love and laughter over the years.

Congratulating Richa on the ‘mad success’ of Heeramandi, Ali added, “You’ve risen way way way above the norm you always do. See you soon! @therichachadha.”

The video begins with Ali and Richa striking quirky poses in front of colourful garlands. It also contains snippets from their travels and photoshoot sessions. Candid clips, birthday celebrations, stills featuring Richa in gorgeous outfits and snaps from Heeramandi’s trailer-launch event make for a heartwarming montage.

Richa reacted to the post, commenting, “Am lucky luckiest girl alive thank you.” Shruti Haasan, Satyajeet Dubey and Saba Pataudi also showered love on the couple. “He's SO right!! YOU Nailed it beautifully. FAB And more power to U!! Btw @alifazal9 I love the coat :)),” reads Saba’s comment.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar delves into tales of love and betrayal experienced by the courtesans of Lahore’s oldest red-light district during British colonial rule. In the period drama web series, Richa’s Lajjo dies of a broken heart after her ‘sahab’ marries another woman.

Also starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal in key roles, Heeramandi is currently available to stream on Netflix.

Richa and Ali, who tied the knot on October 4, 2022, in Lucknow, are expecting their first child together. The couple recently launched their own homegrown fashion label Ehaab, which aims at empowering female artisans of India.
