Bhagalpur, Oct. 24: Members of Safali Yuva Club, a social organisation, today asked the government for introduction of the proposed prevention of communal and targeted violence (access to justice and reparations) bill, 2011.

The organisation also urged the government to release white paper on the action taken report on the riot inquiry reports in the country.

The club members went on a five-hour-long fast from 7am on the 25th anniversary of the infamous Bhagalpur riots of 1989, observed on Friday as Repentance Day at the central office of the club at Sarai in the heart of the city.

Farooque Ali, a senior teacher with Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University and the convener of the club, said: “Despite the fact that the proposed bill was tabled in the House in 2011, the government has not been able to introduce it,” he alleged.

He added that lack of proper law and directives, punishment to riot accused is not possible in an effective manner.
