After winning the Grand Prix award at Cannes Film Festival in May and drawing a full house at Jerusalem Film Festival earlier this week, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light is set for its Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024, the organisers announced on Monday.
The festival organisers revealed the complete lineup of galas and special presentations for its 49th edition on Monday. TIFF 2024 will be held from September 5 to 15.
The festival will also showcase several highlights from Cannes, including Neon’s Palme d’Or winner Anora by Sean Baker, the Spanish musical noir Emilia Perez acquired by Netflix, David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds, and Andrea Arnold’s Bird.
One of the major highlights at TIFF this year is the world premiere of Angelina Jolie’s war drama Without Blood, starring Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir, adapted from Alessandro Baricco’s novel. Another significant premiere is Mike Leigh’s first film in six years, Hard Truths, featuring Marianne Jean-Baptiste, which delves into contemporary issues through a tragicomic lens.
The Last Showgirl, starring Dave Bautista, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd will also be screened at the festival.
Among the directorial debuts, William Goldenberg, known for editing Argo, introduces his Amazon sports biopic Unstoppable starring Jennifer Lopez. Also debuting is The Fire Inside from Rachel Morrison, the Oscar-nominated cinematographer of Black Panther.
A24 will showcase the previously announced romantic drama We Live in Time, starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, along with the newly announced horror thriller Heretic, featuring Hugh Grant, penned by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods of A Quiet Place fame.
David Mackenzie returns to TIFF with Relay, a thriller starring Lily James, Sam Worthington, and Willa Fitzgerald, revolving around a broker who bends his rules to protect a new client.
The sci-fi film The Assessment, starring Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen, will have its world premiere at TIFF. Directed by Fleur Fortune, the movie explores a couple's evaluation over seven days to determine their suitability for childbearing in a utopian society.
Focus Features’ Conclave, directed by Edward Berger and starring Ralph Fiennes, makes its international premiere at TIFF 2024. Additionally, TIFF will host the international premiere of Piece by Piece, a Lego documentary about Pharrell Williams directed by Morgan Neville.
