Jamie Dornan’s sharp suits add a certain mystery to the character of Christian Grey

JACKET?

With summer on us, a summer jacket is a great investment. Ratul Sood, our stylist for the day, chose a beige suede jacket for Look 1. “It’s a billionaire’s jacket. It has black piping all over, a logo on the pocket, very well-fitted, one button, single breast. The beauty of the jacket is the piping. It sort of defines the whole suit and makes it sporty,” says Ratul. Shaheb contrast-pairs it with black trousers and a black shirt.
Wear it to: A nice summer party.
How best to wear a jacket: “Always open shirt, pocket square. Cannot go wrong! Wear it with jeans for that slightly casual look or sharp trousers for the evening,” says Ratul.
Colours: If you are thinking of a nice summer jacket, think blue, maroon, beige, white and pista green.
Ratul’s pick of a man who works jackets like a dream: Arjun Rampal.
For Shaheb, ornamental pockets are trending this season. “Also, because there is a sheen to it, it has a royal feel,” says Shaheb who would wear this look to a derby.
THE RED SUIT

This is Ratul’s twist to the Christian Grey suit — the one Jamie Dornan sports in 50 Shades Of Grey (picture top). “We’ve made our man a lot more flamboyant. That has to do with Shaheb’s personality. It is totally in fashion to use strong colours. It is not something that you sell easily but looks fantastic if you can carry it off. The suit had a fantastic fit. I like the look of ties. They give you a sense of formality and elegance,” says Ratul, of Sood.
Wear it to: A wedding or a Sangeet or a theme party like t2’s Fifty Shades of Red birthday bash.
Ratul’s pick of a man who works suits like a dream: Karan Paul.
Suit up: First choose a design. The one-button or two-button, single-breast style is trending now. Go for peak lapels and quality fabrics. “You cannot make out the fabric when the suit’s made but you feel beautiful. It’s very important that you buy a certain count of wool which gives you that luxurious fall and drape. You have to enjoy the fabric. If you like that touch, buy it,” is Ratul’s important tip. Fit is the hero. For Ratul, 80 per is about the fit. “Wineish-maroon” is the colour of the season.
Shaheb wears a lot of coloured suits like green and blue, and feels confidence is the key. “If you have even one per cent doubt that you would not look good in it, you would not be able to carry it off,” he says. He would definitely dress up in red for the evening.
TUXEDO

Ratul’s tux inspiration? Who else but 007? “And they come from Tom Ford. I would say he is the most sophisticated and elegant designer,” he says. For Ratul, Shaheb can be Tollywood’s James Bond! “Shaheb pulled off the semi double-breast, angular tux beautifully.” The polka-dotted bow tie lends a casual touch.
Wear it to: Black-tie events, cocktails and wedding receptions.
Ratul’s pick of a man who works tux like a dream: Cristiano Ronaldo.
Though this is Shaheb’s favourite look, stepping out in a tux in Calcutta is equal to “wearing a spacesuit”. “People will stare at you but I don’t care.... Sometimes, I feel overdressed,” he says. A fun tux tip? “Wear it with a floral brooch. It gives the tux more life.”

An open bow with a plain white shirt! So sexy. A perfect after-party look for Ratul. A quick tip? Wear it with jeans. “You will kill it!” he laughs. Where does Shaheb see himself in this look? “That’s a casual look. I see myself chilling with friends over a drink after a great evening.”
