Members of Loktantra Bachao Abhiyan (save democracy campaign) — a collective effort of right outfits — which had campaigned for INDIA bloc candidates extensively in Jharkhand during Lok Sabha election has reminded chief minister Hemant Soren about his “unfulfilled” promises ahead of Assembly poll.

In a letter to Soren on Friday, the Abhiyan members claimed that it was their campaign against the BJP for its “anti-tribal” policies which led to the INDIA bloc winning five Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand.

“The Abhiyan clearly believes that the Modi government and RSS are the biggest threats to Jharkhand, democracy, Constitution and the working class. In such a situation, the importance of the Assembly elections to be held in the state increases further. Many promises of the state government which it had made (since coming to power in December 2019) are still incomplete,” the letter states.

The letter also reminds of the issues related to the protection of jal, jungle and jamin (water, forest and land) which formed the election plank of the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government in 2019.

“Nearly 22 lakh acres of non-cultivated and community land of the state was put into a land bank by the previous BJP government. The land bank should be cancelled immediately. Icha-Kharkai Dam Scheme, Netarhat Field Firing Range Scheme and Power Plant Scheme in Lugu Buru should be completely cancelled. A displacement-cum-rehabilitation commission should be formed. Community leases should be distributed under the Forest Rights Act and forest villages should be regularised so that the tribal and forest-based communities are not deprived of their rights,” the letter demands.
