Jamshedpur, July 14: Two accused in the Nirmal Mahto murder case, Narendra Singh alias Pandit and cousin Dhirendra alias Pappu, were sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment today.

Sounding the judgment, the court of fast-track VIII, A.K. Gupta, brought to justice the killers of the firebrand Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader.

In February 2000, the court of first additional district judge, S.K. Murari, had sentenced Birender Singh, the main accused in the case, to rigorous life imprisonment.

There was jubilation among the supporters after today?s judgment.

The two successive judgments on the killers must have given some solace to the kin of the slain Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, but, there is still gloom for the two families who lost their loved ones just after the leader?s killing.

Amarendra Nath, (41), a teacher of a government high school, was murdered at Gamharia by JMM activists hours after Mahto?s murder.

The leader was shot at the Chamaria guesthouse in broad daylight in 1987.

A teenaged boy, Shatish Kumar Pandey, too fell prey to the frenzy of the JMM, which went on the rampage after the leader was shot dead.

Shatish, 17, the only son of Suryadev Pandey, was allegedly butchered by JMM activists the day after Mahto was murdered.

Eighteen years later, the hapless family members of the victim are yet to recover from the trauma.

Getting justice for the loss is far-fetched, they are struggling through the tough moments in coming to terms with the loss.

?Please do not remind me of my child. There is no point of talking about his killers,? said Shanti Pandey, Shatish?s mother. A resident of PWD Colony at Adityapur, the woman burst into tears talking about her son.

?It was Rakhi. My son had gone to his cousin sister?s house near Sitarampur Dam that morning. When he did not return in time, we started asking his friends about his whereabouts and came to know that some people had taken him away forcibly. His body was found cut into pieces near RIT College three days after his abduction,? the distressed mother narrated.

The wound of the son?s killing is still fresh in the mind of Suryadev Pandey, who works as a PWD inspector at the Jugsalai office.

?My wife and I are somehow dragging on. We have no jest to live after the death of my only son,? said Pandey.

He said he does not know who killed his son but according to some people the killers were a group of local residents who picked up his son and murdered him.

He said the incident took place at a JMM stronghold the day after Mahto was assassinated and so they assumed that his son fell victim to the angry party supporters.

But, the family did not get any support from the administration, which feared counter-action.

?For example, the then officer-in-charge of RIT police station, B.K. Lal, under whose jurisdiction my son was killed, had scolded the constable who tipped me off about my son?s body. This was enough indication that the police were scared of the JMM,? he said.

Life is not much easier for the school teacher?s family. After Amarendra Nath?s killing, his wife too died.

His two sons are being brought up an aunt.

According to sources, the police had registered a case of murder against Ratilal Mahto, Sunil Mahto and three others after the school teacher was murdered.

The police submitted a chargesheet against all the accused.

Eight years ago, The court acquitted all three.

Sunil Mahto, member of Parliament from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency told The Telegraph that they were falsely implicated in the murder case.
