Bokaro, March 16: Snags at Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS) and Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS) left Bokaro steel city, Chas, Petarwar, Bermo and adjoining areas without electricity for almost the entire day today.
As production slumped to zero in the evening, the entire region was plunged into darkness, forcing residents to somehow cope. Bokaro steel plant just about managed to keep production going.
CTPS sources said due to technical glitch on the single supply line along the Chandrapura-Pithakari route, power supply ground to a halt at 4.08am. CTPS, however, managed to procure power from Ramkanali and partial supply was restored around 8.30am.
The BTPS unit started producing power again at noon. However, supply snapped again at 5.27pm.
Speaking to The Telegraph, chief engineer of BTPS J.K. Singh said the first technical faults in both CTPS and BTPS was observed at 4am. In the evening, a second technical fault was detected in the grids of both the thermal power plants, pushing down production to zero again. “We are trying to light up the production units. Let’s hope for the best,” said Singh as he monitored the situation.
