Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, who took charge as the director-general of police, (in-charge) of Assam on Saturday, said his priority would be to fight against the ever-growing menace of drugs and not let the state become another Punjab.
After taking charge, Mahanta told reporters that if the police and media work together, a lot of issues of society would come to an end.
“In Assam police, we have everything we need to serve society, including proper team work,” he added.
Former DGP Kuladhar Saikia, after handing over the charge of Assam police chief, said, “I served for more than one-and-a-half years as the director-general of police and, during my tenure, I earned a lot of experience. Assam police, during the time of my service, received utmost support from the people of Assam.”
He hoped that Mahanta would take care of the duties of DGP in-charge with full honour and responsibilities.
Saikia said now that he has retired, he wishes to be involved in social service.
