Guwahati, June 17: Assamese low-budget film Local Kung Fu 2 will be screened in Maharashtra, Karnataka, New Delhi and Bengal tomorrow and on June 21.
The second instalment of Local Kung Fu, one of the few Assamese movies that has achieved a cult following, was released in 43 screens in Assam on April 19 and had received a very short-spanned yet positive response until April 28 when multi-crore blockbuster Bahubali 2: The Conclusion replaced it.
An online movie streaming website, 1018mb.com, which also has tie-ups with movie halls, is organising the screenings in Navi Mumbai and Noida tomorrow and in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Bangalore, New Delhi and Calcutta on Wednesday.
The film was also re-released today with two shows in Gold Cinemas, Paltan Bazar.
"The movie was a hit and we've had several housefulls. But because of Bahubali 2, our show was taken up. Nevertheless, we've had a box office earning of Rs 21.5 lakh in Assam in seven days, of which, the producers got about Rs 10 lakh."
Even though, that did not cover our production costs. We were approached by the Gold Cinema and 1018mb to have second screenings," Kenny Basumatary, director of the film, said. The film is available on MovieSaints.com for paid viewership. The producers are also trying to sell the movie on Netflix or Amazon. "We have sent the movie to them. We hope that it gets sold. That way we can recover our production cost at least," Kenny Basumatary, director of the film, said.Kothanodi is the only other movie which was produced from Assam to be shown on Netflix.
