Dibrugarh, July 18: The officer-in-charge of Rohmoria police station, Pabitra Pran Bora, was arrested in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district today, following a complaint of rape lodged by Rumi Duori, a married woman of Rohmoria.
Dibrugarh superintendent of police Arabinda Kalita said the officer was suspended after the case (No. 07/2011) was registered against him under Section 448/376 of the Indian Penal Code.
“Circle inspector of Duliajan D.R.Bora has been asked to investigate the case. Such cases cannot be tolerated as it tarnishes the image of the force,” Kalita said.
A local source said the duo shared an illicit affair, which was noticed by many in the locality. The woman used to run a small paan shop opposite the police station. “Last evening, the duo was caught red-handed by Rumi’s husband Gojen Duori. To save herself, she lodged the FIR against the police officer,” the source said.
Kalita said the law would take its own course and whoever was found guilty would be punished.
Bora was produced before a Dibrugarh court and Rumi was taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for medical tests this afternoon.
