Tezpur, Feb. 12: A nine-member delegation of Asam Sahitya Sabha, led by its vice-president Paramananda Rajbongshi, met Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki today on the Behali incident.

A mob from Arunachal Pradesh allegedly gunned down 11 villagers and injured several others in the incident on January 29.

Talking to reporters at the office of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha here this evening, Rajbongshi said Tuki had told them that the border dispute could be resolved through discussions by the two states with New Delhi as mediator.

“Tuki also assured us that he would do his best to punish the culprits involved in the incident,” Rajbongshi said.

He said Tuki had also assured them that Assamese would be enlisted as the third language of Arunachal Pradesh and endorsed Asam Sahitya Sabha and Arunachal Literature Society to make textbooks.

“A statue of singer Bhupen Hazarika would be installed and a research centre for different languages of the two states would be set up in Itanagar,” he added.
