Heinrich Klaasen hit a breathtaking 119 not out off just 61 balls as South Africa registered a four-wicket win over the West Indies in the deciding ODI at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.

The series ended 1-1 with the opener being a washout.

The scoring rate was never a problem for the Proteas after they had the Windies, who were put into bat, all out for 260.

The Proteas were scoring in excess of seven after 12 overs but had already lost four wickets by then.

It was going to be a tall order for them, especially without Quinton de Kock and regular captain Temba Bavuma, both of whom play a crucial role in South Africa’s batting line-up. Klaasen was looking solid right from the onset, but he lost a set David Miller (17) when his team still needed 119 more to win.

The Windies again felt they were in with a chance, but left-arm quick Marco Jansen did justice to his batting abilities, scoring a 33-ball 43 as Klaasen and he hammered 103 for the sixth wicket in just 10 overs.

Klaasen finished with 15 boundaries and five maximums as South Africa raced home with 123 balls to spare. “It was a pretty good wicket and this was one of my better knocks,” Klaasen, adjudged Man of the Match and also Man of the Series along with Shai Hope, said.

“We try to play conditions and not the situation. Conditions dictate what shots you play,” Klaasen stressed.

For the Windies, only pacer Alzarri Joseph (3/50) could make an impact. Opener Brandon King (72) top-scored for the visitors.

Brief scores: West Indies 260 in 48.2 overs (B. King 72; M. Jansen 2/46). South Africa 264/6 in 29.3 overs (H. Klaasen 119 n.o.). South Africa won by 4 wickets.
